This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit our marketing site, create an account, or use ScholarSecondBrain.
Scope
ScholarSecondBrain is a personal second-brain product for scholars, researchers, and writers. It helps you Seed a publication list, store Markdown Memory Items including private Working Material, admit items into your catalog, and ask cited questions over content you have admitted.
Information we collect
We may collect account and billing data, Identity Links, Seed inputs, files, pasted text, Markdown bodies, metadata, chat questions, visibility choices, support communications, usage data, diagnostic logs, and session cookies. When you connect an Identity Link or enrich a DOI you already have, we may receive related bibliographic metadata.
We do not require government ID numbers. Do not upload content you are not allowed to store with a vendor. You are responsible for lawful rights in material you upload.
How we use information
We use information to provide, maintain, secure, and support the Service, including Seed, conversion, admission, retrieval, cited chat, export, billing, and optional public pages you enable.
We do not use your Private content or Working Material to train public foundation models. Any future program that would use your content for model training would require a separate explicit opt-in. We may use de-identified or aggregated operational metrics to run and improve the product. We will not sell your catalog content.
Private by default
- Full Markdown bodies default to Private.
- Working Material defaults to Private and is not treated as Published Work.
- Published Works may expose a citation card and abstract without making the full body Public.
- Full-body Public is per work, off by default, and only when you opt in.
Cited chat and automated systems
When you ask a question, the Service retrieves relevant admitted items from your catalog and may use third-party large language models to draft an answer. Answers can be wrong, incomplete, or poorly grounded. Seeded citation cards and pending items are not available for cited chat until you admit them.
Sharing, retention, export, and deletion
We share information with service providers needed to operate the Service, public surfaces you enable, and where required by law. We do not sell personal information or share your Private catalog with other Scholars unless you explicitly enable a product feature.
Catalog content is retained until you delete it or close your account, subject to short backup and audit retention needed for security and continuity. You may export your Markdown catalog and delete items or request account deletion using product controls or by contacting [PRIVACY EMAIL].
Security and contact
We use measures appropriate to risk, including access controls, TLS, infrastructure encryption at rest where available, and audit logging of key actions. No system is perfectly secure. Report suspected vulnerabilities to [SECURITY EMAIL].
